Alsace Region
Nestled between the Vosges Mountains and the Rhine, Alsace is one of France’s most distinctive wine regions. Sheltered from Atlantic rain by the Vosges, its vineyards enjoy a relatively dry, sunny climate, while a remarkable mosaic of soils — including granite, limestone, clay, sandstone and volcanic formations — gives the wines exceptional diversity and precision.
Alsace is best known for its expressive white varieties, particularly Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, Muscat and Pinot Blanc, alongside increasingly refined Pinot Noir. The region is also home to Crémant d’Alsace, one of France’s most important traditional-method sparkling wines. Many producers focus on single-vineyard expressions and the region’s prestigious Grand Cru sites, where grape variety, exposure and soil character are especially clearly expressed.
The finest Alsace wines combine aromatic intensity with freshness, structure and a strong sense of place. From bone-dry, mineral Riesling to richly perfumed Gewürztraminer and elegant sparkling wines, Alsace offers a unique balance of purity, complexity and gastronomic versatility.
