Sud-Ouest

The Sud-Ouest is one of France’s most diverse wine regions, stretching across a broad area from the Atlantic side of Bordeaux toward the foothills of the Pyrenees and the interior valleys of south-western France. Rather than one single style, it is a collection of distinctive appellations and local traditions, shaped by river valleys, rolling hills and a wide variety of soils and microclimates.

The region is especially valued for its wealth of indigenous grape varieties. Reds may feature Malbec, Tannat, Négrette, Duras, Fer Servadou and Cabernet Franc, while whites often include Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng, Colombard, Mauzac and Len de l’El. This diversity gives Sud-Ouest wines a strong regional identity that is often very different from neighbouring Bordeaux.

Styles range from fresh, aromatic whites and lively reds to structured, age-worthy wines and rich sweet wines. At their best, Sud-Ouest wines combine authenticity, character and excellent value, with flavours shaped by local grapes, traditional winemaking and a strong sense of place.
