A tense and mineral-driven top Riesling with remarkable precision, limestone finesse, and gastronomic depth.

The Weingut Keßler Selzer Osterberg Riesling -S- Spätlese Trocken 2020 is a powerful yet elegant dry Riesling from Rheinhessen, sourced from the steep limestone-rich slopes of the Selzer Osterberg vineyard. The “-S-” designation refers to a strictly selected cuvée with additional concentration, depth, and ageing potential.

Tasting notes

The nose reveals aromas of ripe citrus, lime zest, white peach, yellow apple, and delicate herbal nuances, layered over a pronounced mineral backbone. On the palate, the wine combines ripe fruit with vibrant acidity, saline minerality, and a long, precise finish. Despite the “Spätlese” classification, this wine is completely dry (“Trocken”), giving it a refined and highly gastronomic profile rather than sweetness.

The limestone soils of Osterberg provide tension, finesse, and strong terroir expression. The wine has enough structure and extract to evolve beautifully over time and can easily age for 8 to 12 years.

Food pairings

Excellent with shellfish, grilled langoustines, ceviche, sushi, refined fish dishes, Asian cuisine with fresh acidity, or poultry in creamy sauces. It also pairs beautifully with gastronomic vegetarian dishes featuring herbs and citrus elements.

Spätlese: this means the grapes were harvested later than usual (Spätlese translates to "late harvest"), allowing for greater sugar concentration and deeper flavors
Trocken: the wine is classified as "dry," meaning it has little to no residual sugar (2g), allowing the crisp acidity and mineral qualities of the Riesling to shine through
Osterberg: this refers to the vineyard location, which is a top-tier site, as the "Osterberg" name suggests it comes from a high-quality terroir with ideal growing conditions for Riesling
2020 Vintage: The 2020 vintage in Rheinhessen is generally considered a very strong year for dry Riesling, especially for producers working with careful vineyard management and lower yields such as Weingut Keßler. The season was marked by an early start, warm and dry conditions through summer, and excellent ripening potential. The dry weather reduced disease pressure and allowed healthy fruit selection, while cooler nights toward harvest helped preserve acidity and aromatic precision. As a result, many 2020 Rieslings show a combination of ripe fruit concentration and vibrant freshness.
