Domaine Adrien Berlioz Cuvée des Gueux blanc 2025
A vibrant Alpine white from Savoie, combining grapefruit, crisp pear and delicate florals with lively acidity, subtle roundness and a refreshing saline finish.
Tasting notes
Appearance: Light, crystalline yellow with delicate pearlescent reflections.
Nose: Very fresh and expressive, opening with grapefruit and citrus zest, followed by pear, honeysuckle and subtle herbal notes reminiscent of boxwood.
Palate: The attack is lively, crisp and energetic. Citrus and fresh orchard fruit give way to a slightly rounder mid-palate, while a taut acidic backbone and light salinity provide precision. The finish is clean, mineral and highly refreshing.
Style: Light-footed and very drinkable, but not simplistic. The Jacquère provides the distinctly Alpine freshness and tension, while Chardonnay and Pinot Gris bring a little more fruit and volume.
Important note on the 2025 blend
The 2025 represents a change in the cuvée. Earlier versions were essentially/predominantly Jacquère. This vintage: 70% Jacquère, 20% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Gris
Food pairing
The freshness and salinity make it particularly good with oysters • shellfish • grilled prawns • trout • grilled white fish • sushi • fresh goat's cheese • young Alpine cheeses • vegetable dishes.
It would also be an excellent aperitif wine.
For a more regional pairing, try it with Savoyard charcuterie or a lighter cheese fondue. Its acidity cuts through the richness particularly well.
Positioning
I would position Cuvée des Gueux as an accessible introduction to Adrien Berlioz and contemporary Savoie: fresh, energetic and immediately enjoyable, but still displaying the mineral and saline character that makes Alpine whites distinctive.
The new 2025 blend should also make it slightly rounder and more approachable than a pure Jacquère, without losing the freshness that defines the cuvée.
A vibrant Alpine white led by Jacquère, with grapefruit, crisp pear, honeysuckle and subtle herbal notes. Lively and mineral on the palate, with a touch of roundness and a beautifully fresh, saline finish.
