A refined and structured expression of Roero Arneis, combining ripe orchard and exotic fruit with subtle vanilla, freshness and the distinctive mineral character of Roero’s sandy-marl soils.

Tasting notes

Appearance: Deep straw yellow, showing more concentration than a typical young, stainless-steel-aged Arneis.

Nose: Expressive and layered, with ripe apple, pear and exotic fruit, complemented by white flowers and a subtle touch of vanilla from the French oak. With air, more mineral and lightly savoury nuances emerge.

Palate: Dry, elegant and relatively full-bodied for Arneis. Ripe orchard fruit is balanced by fresh acidity, while partial oak maturation gives the wine additional texture, roundness and complexity without dominating the varietal character. The finish is persistent, slightly saline and mineral.

Deltetto specifically describes San Michele as an Arneis with enough structure and elegance to develop with bottle age, making it a more ambitious expression of the grape than their fresher Daivej cuvée.

Food pairing

This has enough structure to go considerably further than a simple aperitif. I would recommend:

Vitello tonnato • scallops • grilled prawns • lobster • grilled octopus • richer white fish • mushroom risotto • tajarin with butter and sage • poultry in a light cream sauce • semi-mature cheeses.

Deltetto's own signature pairing is particularly interesting: Piedmontese fonduta with Alba white truffle.

Positioning

I would position San Michele above a standard Roero Arneis. The combination of cement, French oak and steel gives it more depth and gastronomic potential while retaining the freshness and aromatic identity of Arneis.
