A refined and beautifully mature Sangiovese, combining vibrant cherry fruit, savoury Tuscan character and fine tannins with the exceptional freshness and balance of the 2016 vintage.

πŸ₯‚ Tasting Notes

Appearance
Deep ruby red transitioning towards garnet at the rim. Despite its maturity, the wine retains attractive brightness and good colour concentration.

Aroma elegant and increasingly complex, with aromas of ripe and dried cherry, red plum and wild berries. With air, the bouquet develops notes of violet, dried Mediterranean herbs, tobacco and cedar, followed by subtle leather, forest floor and balsamic nuances. Gentle sweet spice adds another layer without obscuring the characteristic Sangiovese fruit.

Palate refined and beautifully balanced. Red cherry and plum remain remarkably fresh, supported by lively acidity and fine, polished tannins. Savoury notes of dried herbs, tobacco, cedar and earthy spice develop across the palate. Compared with the warmer 2015, the 2016 shows greater precision, freshness and definition, giving the wine an elegant and energetic character despite its maturity.

Finish long, savoury and persistent, with dried cherry, subtle tobacco, Mediterranean herbs and earthy mineral notes. Fresh acidity provides excellent definition and leaves a clean, appetising finish.

Ageing Potential the 2016 is drinking beautifully now but, given the balance and freshness of this excellent vintage, well-stored bottles should continue to evolve until approximately 2030–2032. A gentle 30-minute decant is recommended, both to open the aromatics and to separate any sediment.

🍽️ Food Pairing (Gastronomic Level)

  • Bistecca alla Fiorentina – a natural partner for mature Tuscan Sangiovese.
  • Wild boar ragΓΉ – complements the wine's savoury, herbal and earthy complexity.
  • Roast lamb with rosemary – mirrors its Mediterranean herb character.
  • Roast duck – excellent with the mature cherry and red-fruit flavours.
  • Grilled veal or beef – well matched to its fine tannins and refreshing acidity.
  • Pappardelle with porcini mushrooms – enhances the wine's earthy, evolved nuances.
  • Tuscan sausages and grilled meats – the acidity provides balance against richer flavours.
