Hughes Beguet Orange Was The Color of The Dress 2023
A structured, aromatic Savagnin orange wine - more about texture, spice, and complexity than simple fruit.
The wine opens with a complex, aromatic nose of yellow fruits - apricot, peach - interwoven with citrus peel, white flowers, and a distinct spicy lift (ginger, resin, light herbal notes). There’s also a subtle honeyed nuance that adds depth without tipping into sweetness.
On the palate, it is textural and enveloping, driven by both fruit richness and phenolic structure. Flavors move between grapefruit, orange zest, and preserved apricot, with a slightly oily mid-palate. The extended skin contact brings fine tannins and a controlled bitterness, giving the wine grip and direction.
The finish is long and layered, combining spice, citrus peel bitterness, and mineral freshness, leaving a dry, gently savory impression.
