The Mervič cellar JNK is situated in the town of Šempas, 9km from Nova Gorica in the Slovenian wine region of Vipava, close to the Italian border, at a height of 100 to 300 meters.
Viticulture and winemaking at the Mervič cellar began in 1890, when Ivan Mervič, informally called JNK, bought the first piece of land to plant 200 vines.
Around 1910 his son Peter took over the viticulture and winemaking business and slightly increased the surface area of the vineyards. The rich tradition and love for the vineyards passed on to the sons Andrej and Boleslav. The latter afterwards continued with viticulture and winemaking to the present day. In the last few years he increased the surface to today's 3.5 ha.
In memory of its originator the cellar bears the name JNK.
Nowadays Kristina Mervič, daughter of Boleslav, has become involved in the wine making process. She only brings out the wine when she thinks it's at its best. So you won't find recent years on the market, but you'll get very high quality wine you can drink without waiting.

The white wines are all skin-macerated during a couple of days and always educated in old French oak vats. This garantees complex, matured and sublime wines.
