Hughes Beguet Macvin du Jura Dance of the Peasant and the Bear Rosé
⚠️ First, important clarification: despite the “rosé” appearance, this is not a dry rosé wine. It is a Macvin du Jura - a fortified wine made from grape must + marc (grape spirit).
👉 A dessert-style, fortified rosé with richness and aromatic intensity rather than freshness or acidity-driven tension.
🍷 Tasting notes
The nose is rich and immediately expressive, opening on ripe stone fruit - apricot, peach, and mirabelle - wrapped in honeyed sweetness. There’s a confectionary edge of white chocolate and candied fruit, alongside subtle spice and a faint oxidative, nutty nuance typical of the style.
On the palate, it is lusciously sweet yet balanced, with a dense, silky texture. The fruit profile leans toward preserved apricot, quince, and orange peel, supported by a warming alcoholic backbone. Despite its richness, there’s enough freshness to keep it from feeling heavy.
The finish is long, smooth, and enveloping, marked by sweet spice, dried fruit, and a gentle warmth.
🍽️ Food associations
This is not a “rosé for aperitif” - it behaves like a Jura dessert wine / digestif, closer to Pineau des Charentes or young fortified wines than to still rosé.
