🥂 Tasting Notes
Region & Vintage: AOC Viré-Clessé, Bourgogne (Mâconnais) — vintage 2023.
Variety & Terroir: 100 % Chardonnay from the “Virolis” parcel—a south-east facing limestone hillside above the village of Viré. Vines ~70 years old; organic viticulture.
Colour: Pale golden yellow with brilliant clarity.
Aroma: Elegant floral notes, white blossoms, hints of citrus zest and subtle exotic fruit. The limestone soils give a fine minerality evident in the aroma.
Palate: Medium-bodied with a refined texture. Initial impression is soft and smooth, transitioning into fresh citrus (lemon, perhaps green apple) and gentle orchard fruit. Underlying minerality creates tension; toast or light oak from barrel ageing (in demi-muid) adds complexity without heaviness.
Finish: Long, clean and persistent. The mineral thread carries through into a fine finish which invites another sip. Drinking window suggests from now through the next 4-5 years for best expression.
Food Pairing: Ideal with seafood (oysters, shellfish), grilled white fish, mild creamy sauces, or refined cheeses. Serve well chilled (~10-12 °C).
Ageing Potential: Drinkable now for freshness, but the structure and terroir indicate good potential for cellaring into 2028-2030 for additional nuance.
