Regions: Sardegna
Although Sardinia (Sardegna in Italian) is part of Italy many of the cultivated grapes came from Spain or France. The island is well known for it's beautiful beaches, scenery mountains and traditional cuisine. Sardinia is home to Cannonau, the local name for Grenache (France) or Garnacha (Spain), as well as Vermentino and Carignano, also known as Carignan (France) and Cariñena/Mazuelo (Spain). New winemakers leave the commercial based way of making wine and start their own adventure. They tend to make very natural wine with the old traditions in mind. Certainly there are lovely natural wines to be discovered.
