Region & Vintage: DO Valdeorras, Spain — 2023 vintage.
Grape & Vinification: Predominantly 91 % Mencía, with small incorporations of Araúxa (7 %) and Garnacha (2 %) from old vine parcels. Ageing approximately 6 months in new French, American and Central European oak.
Colour: Deep garnet red with cardinal rim, dense in the glass.
Nose: A complex nose: ripe red and dark fruit, hints of hibiscus, rosemary and honey combine with noble spice and subtle oak.
Palate: Medium to full body, showing mineral undertones of the Larouco soils, fine-grained tannins and a balance of freshness and structure. The oak is present but integrated, reinforcing character rather than dominating.
Finish: Long and deep, with an aftertaste of mountain herbs, mineral tension and elegant wood influence.
Food Pairing: Excellent with grilled red meats, game (venison, wild boar), rich stews, matured cow-cheese or hearty vegetarian dishes with mushrooms/umami. Serve around 16-18 °C and consider decanting for best expression.
Ageing Potential: Drinkable now, but built to evolve – the structure suggests it will develop further complexity over the next 4-6 years (or more under good conditions).
